Sixth round of the 2009 World Superbike Championship today at the Kyalami Grand Prix circuit in South Africa. Two difficult races for Team Pedercini’s riders Luca Scassa and David Salom.
A very bad start for Scassa in race one. Despite finishing the first lap in last position, with a very fast pace he ended in seventeenth place. Unfortunately in race two Scassa crashed near to the end of the race when he was in sixteenth place, fighting for the points zone, and he was not able to rejoin the race. Team mate David Salom in race one, after a slow start, reached the twentieth place while in race two he suffered some problems at the front brake, ending in sixteenth position.
David Salom: “I’m really disappointed because of my bad start in race one. Starting from the first few laps I pushed very hard and I found a fast pace, but I was able to overtake only a few riders and I ended in twentieth position. My second start was pretty good but I suffered some front brake problems during the first laps. Fortunately the bike was working well, the engine was running perfectly and I reached the sixteenth place. Of course I’m not satisfied for these results but my bike is improving every race and I I’m confident for the next races. I want to thank my crew who has done such a wonderful job this weekend”.
Luca Scassa: ”My start in race one was not so good because my bike’s launch control was not working properly and I ended the first lap in last position. I pushed very hard and I gave it everything I had but I reached only the seventeenth place. For race two we changed something on the bike setting but it was not a good solution. After a quick start I found a fast race pace and I was trying to pass Parkes, but I crashed and I was not able to restart. All things considered I’m happy with my first race result and I want to thanks to the guys in the team who have done a great job here in Kyalami. Now I’m eager to race in Salt Lake City”.
