Regis Laconi seventh under hot Misano sun
Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) finished his Misano weekend with a seventh Laconi is now 11th in the championship fight, after a weekend at the San Marino round in which he and his machine ran in a distinctive blue and white livery, in recognition of the team’s home round of the championship. Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) was similarly attired in blue and white but found little good fortune at Misano, suffering a DNF in race one and 12th in race two. In the first race Laconi was just behind the leading group of four in the early stages, and hung on at the new Misano venue to score nine valuable championship points for. His team-mate Nieto was not so fortunate, having to retire from a points scoring position on lap 15. In race two Laconi rode hard to the end to fight both chatter and his rivals, heading off Nieto by eight seconds. A points haul of 76 means that Laconi is 11th overall, and Nieto is now 14th in the championship, with 50 points. Mauro Sanchini (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) made the most of race one, ending his early outing 12th, and scored a single point in race two, for 15th. REGIS LACONI: “I started well in race one but then I lost positions because of chattering. That didn’t permit me to push like I wanted. It was really exhausting to ride in those condition and extremely difficult to finish the race. We tried to make some adjustments for race two but things didn’t change enough. Besides, I made a bad start and it increased the difficulties I faced. The only positive aspect is that I took home some points but we have to find a solution to be truly competitive.” FONSI NIETO: “When things don’t go as they should there’s not much you can do. In race one the fuel pipe was ruptured and the only thing I could do was to return to the box. In race two things seemed to go better and I got back some positions. Then I started to suffer from chattering and I had to stop pushing trying and finish the race to bring home some points. I’m disappointed about this weekend, because this was the ‘home’ round and I really wanted to do my best.” MAURO SANCHINI “I enjoyed both my races but they were hard work. In race one I took some points but I wasn’t really satisfied because my race pace was slower than yesterday. Then I started to feel something strange from the bike and I focused on finishing the race. With some adjustments we found a good race pace in race two and it went better; it was more satisfying even if I gained just one point. I want to thank the team for the great work they did this weekend.” |
