Fabien Foret (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) scored a fourth place at Valencia, and leaves the Spanish circuit second in the championship, on 51 points.
His team-mate Pere Riba (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) looked set for the win after getting away in the leading group, but a collision with Kevin Curtain saw each rider crash out of contention, on lap nine. Terrible weather over the start of race weekend cleared enough for the Valencia track to be described as dry and it allowed Foret to make an impressive charge through the field, despite a dreadful start which saw him down in 15th on lap one.
Given Foret’s end of race pace, pace and his own ease in passing other riders when required, Riba felt it could have been his day in front of his home crowd.
Riba is now tenth in the championship, with 22 points.
Fabien Foret: “I had a bad start again and it must have been me. It is not the first time. I know I should be happier with my fourth place but it is really difficult to catch up with the front guys at the beginning of the race. I did my best and I was close to a podium. The best thing is that I am again second in the
championship.”
Pere Riba: “I was riding well and feeling comfortable but I saw Sofuoglu getting away at the front and Kevin had been spinning up his rear tyre, and losing time. He ran wide as his rear spun into the last corner and I went up the inside. He then came back over and we touched and then we went down. I am really disappointed because I really knew that this race was mine today. 100%. I know this also because of how fast Fabien came through in the later stages of the race on a bike the same as mine.”
