Jay Wilson wins World 85 cc Junior MX Championship on KTM

Young Australian Jay Wilson pulled off a great weekend of MX racing onboard his KTM 85 cc machine last weekend in Taupo in the north island of New Zealand to come away with the Junior Motocross World Championship title.
It was the first time that the championship had been held outside of Europe, giving riders a unique experience of different terrain and conditions.

Wilson's success, won in front of more than 10,000 fans, gave his country its first ever world motocross title. The 15-year old started the weekend strongly with a second place in Saturday's qualifying then on Sunday, defied pouring rain to win the first race ahead of two other Australian riders and put himself in the box seat to follow up with a solid result in race two. After race two he said the gate had "jumped a bit" and he didn't get the reaction time he would have liked. But the title was safely in his hands after he crossed the line in third place behind Italian Samuele Bernadini and Dylan Long, (KTM) of Australia.

"It's amazing, I don't know if this is real or not... I'm just speechless at the moment, I never thought I'd be here right now," an ecstatic Wilson said after picking up his silverware.

In the 125cc class, Australian polesitter Tye Simmonds (KTM) put in a solid second moto leading the race from start to finish, which was ultimately good enough to give him second place in the World Junior Championship behind American Eli Tomac. He had finished third behind Tomac and New Zealander local Hamish Dobbyn in race one after suffering arm pump.

Australia won the Nations Trophy from Italy and New Zealand and it was announced that the 2010 World Junior championship will be hosted by France.
