With the sports machines 690 Duke, 690 Enduro and the 690 SMC, KTM presents three fully newly-developed single cylinder models at the Paris important innovations fair, Mondial de deux Roues. Following the successful entry into the market of the KTM 690 SM as the first model of the latest LC4 single cylinder generation in the spring of 2007, the Austrian brand for sports motorcycles has reinforced the single cylinder product pallet with three completely newly-developed models at the autumn fair Mondial de deux Roues. Driven by the world’s most modern series single cylinder engine, the 690 Duke, the 690 SMC and the 690 Enduro all illustrate KTM’s pure racing culture of powerful, light and inimitably expressive sports motorcycles. As the successor to the legendary Duke, with which KTM first founded the fun bike segment 13 years ago, the 690 Duke of the model year 2008 is in full possession of the cult bike genes from the Mattighofen, Austria factory. The bike, with 65 hp and an ultra modern street chassis, is at the same time also a mature Naked Bike. Thanks to its ready to ride weight of just 148 kg, the 690 Duke, more unleashed than ever, can sprint through the city or out on the open road. And those who want even a hotter riding experience on the grippy asphalt will find the ideal motorbike in the 690 Super Competition, available in early 2008. Through light modifications and a new exhaust system for the 654cc fuel injected motor weighing merely 139 kg, the SMC, 62 hp homologated bike offers to date the most inconceivable mix of ready to race Supermoto and everyday lifestyle single cylinder. True to the motto “back to the roots”, a very special highlight is waiting for the huge purist Enduro fan community. The 690 Enduro combines KTM’s enormous wealth of “LC4” experience gathered over the past 20 years with the most modern motor and chassis technology to produce the ultimate Hard Enduro – and in doing so, also a modern version of the motorbike that illustrates the entire history of the brand. Weighing just 138 kg, with fully homologated 62 hp performance and equipped with innovative solutions like the self supporting rear tank unit, the 690 Enduro underpins the worldwide dominance of KTM in the construction of sporty offroad motorcycles. As well as the fascinating new LC4 innovations, KTM is also exhibiting the new 690 SM-R in Paris for the first time. In the best R model tradition, the extremely conspicuously-styled, single cylinder all-rounder for the model year 2008, with its numerous delightful optical and technical features, represents the premium variant of the successful 690 SM. KTM is also presenting an unusual concept study to visitors to the fair that is not only outstanding but also a sensationally spectacular highlight. Under the project title “Stunt 690” and created by KTM’s chief designer Gerald Kiska, the radical freestyle motorcycle not only looks to the future but is also a two-wheeled expression of today’s urban lifestyle. Driven by the LC4 tuned for maximum torque at low revs, the Stunt 690 also features a newly developed single-sided swing arm while a whole range of special parts from the unique trick motorcycles come from the current KTM PowerParts catalogue. |
