In 2006, Derbi set new standards in the scrambler category with the launch of the Mulhacén 659, its first large displacement bike, inspired by the legendary scramblers of the 70’s. The Mulhacén 659, with its edgy look, was nevertheless a comfortable and functional bike. Responsive and versatile, the new Derbi model quickly became a success and received multiple awards even before hitting dealer floors.
Now for 2007, the Spanish manufacturer expands the scrambler family with the new Mulhacén 125, equipped with a modern 125cc, 15hp engine that preserves the spirit and untamed character of her big sister with the same obsession for details and reliability Derbi is famous for.
The new Mulhacén 125cc deserved an extraordinary heart, leading Derbi to equip it with the new 125cc- a 4-stroke engine with 15 HP at 9.500 r.p.m., with a 6-speed gearbox and electric starter with automatic ignition. This single cylinder, liquid cooled propeller, has a bore x stroke of 58x47mm and a compression ratio of 12:1. In fact, it is the most effective and innovative of its sector. This new engine has 4 valves with a double overhead camshaft and a balance axle that allows it to spin cleanly with no vibrations. Derbi has created a compact, light, economic and environmentally friendly Euro 3 certified engine that offers the best performance while preserving low fuel consumption.
The engine has been tuned to achieve one primary objective: to guarantee consistent power through the entire spectrum of RPM. The engine ensures a relaxed and responsive riding experience.
A new high-resistance, steel tubular chassis, designed by Derbi and tested according to the most demanding quality standards, offers the best ergonomics for a relaxed and comfortable drive. The front suspension has a hydraulic fork of 37 mmdiameter, the strongest of its class. It features a 25 degree riding angle and a 99mm advance, with a mono-shock with progressive link system which offers superior stability in the straights and agility in turns. It also was designed with an ergonomic handlebar especially designed to guarantee an appropriate and comfortable riding position.
The brake system has been designed to offer powerful grip through efficient and responsive braking. It has a front 280mm disk with an hydraulic brake calliper with double piston. The rear brake is a 220mm disk that ensures potent and supple Braking for high safety and ease of use.
To add to the bike’s comfort and safety, it has also been designed with an ergonomic seat and halogen 55W headlights with a width, depth and intensity much higher than the rest of its class. It also features a digital control panel with all necessary controls within easy view.
To highlight its urban spirit, the new Mulhacén 125 supports an eighteen inch front tyre and a seventeen inch rear tyre that is ideal for both city driving and for medium distance trips. Finally, its low weight of only 110kg improves its agility even more.
This new scrambler from Derbi has an attractive new look, with a modern and daring design that can be personalized with interchangeable side covers in 8 different colours.
The new Mulhacén 125 can be driven with a standard auto driving licence (according to Spanish regulation – law may differ in other countries) and, thanks to its lightness and agility, it is an ideal choice for first time buyers of two-wheeled vehicles.
