Balazs Nemeth keeps on learning in his World Championship debut season, taking an eighteenth place finish at the Circuit de Catalunya. Although the rain stayed away in northeast Spain on Sunday, the Catalan round of the 250cc World Championship was still a race marked by difficult conditions for the riders. 37 degrees Celsius heat at race time made things tough for all the contestants, but it was Álvaro Bautista who thrived on them to take the victory. Héctor Barberá had started from pole and finished third, whilst Hiroshi Aoyama took second under the intense heat at the last minute. Bautista became the first rider of the year to win two 250cc races, and retained his lead in the World Championship, whilst some of his rivals fell by the wayside. Away from that particular battle, a Hungarian rider was undertaking his second Grand Prix, Balatonring's Balázs Németh. A newcomer to dry racing in the two-stroke series, the newcomer set off from 21st on the grid, and kept on learning throughout the race. He improved upon his starting position with an 18th place finish, and as in Mugello he was a model of total concentration. The team now head to Valencia for testing, before the next round of the campaign at Assen in Holland.
18th Balázs Németh: "This is my first ever 250cc race in dry conditions, and to tell the truth I am very happy with the result. I started better than at Mugello, and was able to follow some other riders. The opening laps were pretty difficult, because I was unable to find a good feeling on the bike. I just hoped that I would feel better as the laps went on, and that is what happened, but the heat made the race feel like an eternity. Added to that, I was also fighting with some tough riders. My goal was to finish the race, and to continue developing my skills for the World Championship stage, so I had to keep my concentration. I am happy to have gone progressively forward, and I am picking up experience that I am sure will be useful at Assen, a circuit at which I have ridden before."
