Second positive day of testing for Andrea Dovizioso despite the rain in Spain
Yesterday with the good weather and a full afternoon of work completed, the plan for today was to use the whole day to finish the test schedule. Unfortunately the variable weather has disturbed today’s programme with flashes of rain. Eventually the team needed to stop early because of the poor conditions on track. Andrea Dovizioso dedicated the few hours of dry conditions to test qualifying tyres, without looking for a quick time. Instead Andrea worked also on the electronic management of the engine to find an optimum balance on the bike. Eventually, the time recorded was in line with that done in qualifying for last Sunday’s Catalan Grand Prix. Andrea Dovizioso finished the test to return to London to prepare for the next round at Donington Park.

Gianni Berti – Technical co-ordinator JiR Team Scot
“After yesterday we concluded the afternoon test with good results. We had an intensive programme scheduled for today with a full day on track, but in the morning the weather was variable with continous changes of sun and rain. The programme was concentrated on the qualifying tyres and the engine management system we also had a programme with other race tyres but we were not able to complete this work. With the track conditions not good we didn’t look for the absolute lap time but the final result is in line with the Saturday qualifying session that we did in the sunshine and so this has to be considered a good result.”

“I wanted to use all the time to the best today because we have a lot of testing to do. I came on the track at 10am in the morning but then it started to rain and then stopped. This was continuous all day and so I didn’t go out on track as much as I was hoping to. In the early afternoon the track dried out and for one and a half hours we tested Michelin qualifying tyres with the aim to solve the problem I always have with these tyres and we made some good progress. In particular the feedback I feel from the rear tyre doesn’t give me confidence but we also have to work to balance the performance of the rear with the front tyre. However, considering the grip conditions on the track and the little time we had to test the results are positive and the team are going in the right direction.”

Pietro Caprara – Technical chief JiR Team Scot
“The negative aspects of today certainly has been the variable weather conditions that forced us to test for only around two hours today. The rain was not heavy enough for us to use full rain tyres and we had to stay in the pits waiting for the track to get dry. It would rain and then stop and then rain again! We concentrated on testing qualifying tyres, working as well to develop the parameters of our electronics package to identify the best conditions that allow Andrea to get the best results from these tyres. Considering the track conditions and the poor grip available the stopwatch has indicated that we have made positive progress.”
