A tenacious home race from Andrea Dovizioso at Mugello
The Italian Grand Prix at Mugello saw Andrea Dovizioso fighting at the head of the field once more. A great start from 13th place on the grid and in just a few corners he took fifth position and tried not to lose the contact with Rossi, Stoner, Pedrosa and Capirossi. During the race both Dovizioso and Alex de Angelis came through the pack and the JiR Team Scot rider was then fighting with Loris Capirossi for seventh position. The fighting was spectacular and could have ended in Andrea being higher up the order, if it was not for a lack of grip towards the end of the race. Instead, Andrea went for the finish and some safe points, climbing one position to seventh in the World Championship rankings.

Gianluca Montiron – Director JiR Team Scot
“Today’s result allows us to make a step forward in the championship ranking. After good weather on Saturday and today the final result is positive. Andrea and the team used well the technical package at their disposal and we proved that we are competitive. The start of the race was strong for Andrea and although the result could be better, it’s important that we continue to improve and get more points. We go now to Barcelona with the aim to improve our position still further in the championship.”

“It was a hard race, not just because of the physical strain, but also because the heat here was very high! I started like a sprinter, and I took a lot of positions and I had a good rhythm, but during the last laps the rear grip was getting less and less. Between yesterday and today we tried two kinds of tyres one hard that didn’t give me good grip feeling and one medium that was better but with the possibility of the grip reducing at the end of the race. We considered our start position and chose the second tyre that after a while it started to give less grip. If I didn’t have to go so quick from the start, maybe I would have chosen the first one, however it’s been a good race and I enjoyed very much the fight with Loris and he is a very good competitor. This morning I was not very well because my shoulder was in pain but after visiting the Clinca Mobile afterwards, during the race it felt very good. I’m satisfied about this result but we have to improve. I did a good race and this is important for all the team.”
