Le Mans: Hector Faubel takes third tenth place of the season

On a day that began with mist, all manner of conditions could be expected in Le Mans. A host of different temperatures, cloudiness and sunshine combined to make things difficult for the 250cc riders, who had their race delayed as a result of a restarted 125cc showdown. When the quarter litre riders finally took to the grid at 12.30, the track was half-wet and difficult for tyre choices, with some teams choosing slicks and others going for intermediate rubber. The track dried and left some competitors unable to challenge. The Mapfre Aspar Aprilia riders had a difficult day, unable to break into the front group at the French circuit.

Héctor Faubel had a great race, despite some hard times in practice. He took his third tenth place of the year, and placed inside the overall top ten as a result of the six points. The Spaniard took a gamble on mixed tyres, and this decision allowed him to move up through the field. However, as the race went on and the track dried out, Faubel had to change his pace to a more conservative one in order to finish the race.

Mapfre Aspar's other rider, Įlvaro Bautista, continued his run of bad luck. The Spaniard started from second on the grid, but had an early problem which dropped him down the standings like a stone. After a testy opening series of laps, he finished fourteenth and lost further ground in the World Championship, following on from misfortune in China and Jerez.

The team will now look ahead to the next challenge on the calendar, which takes place in two weeks time at Mugello.

10th Héctor Faubel: "We took a big gamble on the intermediate tyres, but when it rains racing becomes a lottery. At the start I got off well, and I moved up a few places, but at the midway point the track started to dry up and I found myself back down the field. I am happy in any case, because it had been a difficult weekend. Now we have to move on from this and think about Mugello, which is a circuit that I love. If we're lucky we should take that step forward that we have been chasing."

14th Įlvaro Bautista: "I prefer to think about the fact that our pace was good all weekend, and that our team are competitive. The race didn't go how we wanted, and we are obviously having some bad luck this year. The start wasn't good for me, and I stalled on the first corner, so I started to ride more carefully so as not to make any mistakes. I was suddenly far down the field and it was too late for a comeback when the conditions changed."
