Victory for Taddy Blazusiakat US Endurocross Opener

Taddy Blazusiak has won the opening round of the ’09 US Endurocross series staged at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Coming into the opening round of the series having claimed victory at the toughest of all extreme events – the Erzberg Rodeo in Austria – Blazusiak finished the eight-lap main event no more than a hair’s width ahead of defending series champion Ricky Dietrich, with Mike Brown third.

Recording a hot lap close to one-and-a-half seconds faster than any other rider to start his night in the best possible way, Taddy lead his heat race from start to finish before claiming a comfortable winning margin that placed him directly into the main event. Blasting his way into an early lead Taddy steadily opened up a gap at the head of the field, before making a costly mistake in the water section. Losing drive on his approach to the obstacle Taddy went for a quick swim before re-mounting his KTM and battling with defending series champion Ricky Dietrich. Demoted from the top spot briefly by Mike brown Taddy managed to muscle his way back into the lead and with Dietrich right behind him Taddy claimed the win, by the narrowest of margins.

Taddy Blazusiak: “I’m a little disappointed that I made a stupid mistake in the main event, which allowed Ricky to close right in on me, but I’m so happy to have started the new championship off with a win. The night went so well – I was almost one-and-a-half seconds faster than anyone during the hot lap session, and then I won my heat race comfortably, like I said I just made one mistake in the main event, but it was a big one. I got a great start to the main, like I did in my heat. I must have been at least five seconds ahead at one stage, but then I lost some drive going into the water section. My rear wheel spun, I didn’t get a good jump, and I hit the log in the middle of the water hard.

“I was pretty mad with myself. As I was getting going again Ricky was right beside me, and from there until the finish it was really close racing. We collided once as we both went for the same line. I broke my gear shifter, which made the last couple of laps tough. That’s when Mike Brown came past both of us. I wanted to win so badly. I kept pushing and pushing and finally I got the chequered flag, but it was close.

“I have to say a really big thank you to KTM and Red Bull. After everything that happened last year with my injury it’s great to be back fit and healthy, and winning again. The organisers did a great job – they used every bit of the arena floor, the track was the best ever. There’s a long way to go in the championship and I know each round will be every bit as hard as this one, but I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series. I’m just so pleased to have started it with a win.”
