Test day and more continous progress for Andrea Dovizioso after Catalan Grand Prix

The JiR Team Scot squad, following on from yesterday’s Catalunya Grand Prix where they finished in fourth place, stayed on at the Spanish circuit to continue the development of their Honda RC212V. The Montmelo track was only accessible in the afternoon so rider Andrea Dovizioso used the track until the very last minute. At the end of the day the result was very positive and performance has been improved compared to the team’s performance in practice and the race. Both team and rider tomorrow will continue to test the new settings of the chassis and suspension and the new Michelin tyres. Andrea Dovizioso yesterday had two satisfying moments: one for the result in the race and the second when he was called on the phone by Francesco Totti, captain of the Italian national soccer team. Totti rang to congratulate Andrea’s performance both on track and in the charity football match that he played in on 12th May.

Gianni Berti – Technical co-ordinator JiR Team Scot
“After yesterday’s race, today we had to verify and analyse the performance with the same technical conditions that saw us take a fine fourth place. Then we dedicated time to develop the settings of the chassis and test the new Michelin tyres. Despite only having the afternoon on track, the results obtained are interesting because Andrea was able to improve his consistency and rhythm while running similar lap times to yesterday. The weather conditions are uncertain for tomorrow, but if they stay good like today we will continue to follow the programme of testing.”

“Before talking about today, I want to thank Francesco Totti for his compliments from yesterday evening, I appreciate them very much! Today I’m satisfied about my performance because I improved my race rhythm and we have developed the chassis so that now it gives me better stability. The fastest lap done today is better than yesterday, but it is interesting that I could repeat this lap time for many more laps. This result is partly thanks to the work done in the pit box and also thanks to the new tyres. We had only the afternoon on track and we didn’t try the qualifying tyres that we would like to use tomorrow. I hope also to improve with these tyres too.”

Pietro Caprara – Technical chief JiR Team Scot
“At the start of the practice in the afternoon we used the same configuration as we did in the race and we did some comparisons with other solutions that we’ve used in the past and we got some important data. After this we dedicated our time to the new tyres, especially rear tyres. We did some short runs but they gave us some significant data that, at the end of the afternoon, led us to test two other new Michelin tyres and to develop also some electronic parameters for the engine management system. Tonight we will analyse the data and then finalise the test programme for tomorrow that will include a test with the qualifying tyres.”
