Superstock 600 Monza: Superb victory for Loris Baz

13 maggio 2008

While Sylvain Barrier qualified 18th in the FIM Cup Superstock 1000, Loris Baz (only 15) achieved a great accomplishment and showed a lot of talent when he won the Superstock 600 European Championship race.

During the qualifications, Baz did a great job with the pole position and a new track record. He took immediately the lead of the race, in front of Petrucci, Beretta and Black, but the race had to be stopped after 3 laps when there was a crash a midfield. At the restart, Petrucci was the fastest, in front of Baz and Black who crashed later (gearbox problem). Baz took the lead, leaving Bussolotti cross the finish line in front of him, as Baz knew quite well that he had won on aggregate.

Loris Baz: « It was super! I was already confident on the starting grid. The start of the race was not easy because I could not put a big gap between my opponents and me, which was what I was hoping. I did not restart so well after the red flag, but after that everything went well. I made two mistakes in the last lap, including one where I could have crashed because I almost lost the front. I am very happy of this victory.”

Martial Garcia (team-manager): “This is the second victory for young Loris who displayed a very impressive maturity. Monza is one of the most difficult races. He is now leading the championship.”
