Troy took a superb third place in the first of the 24-lap races at the Eurospeedway Lausitz today, but it could have easily been a second, but for the blocking manoeuvres of Max Biaggi.
He was hoping for more of the same in race two, but could not match the pace of the leaders and ended up fifth instead. Troy's team mate Noriyuki Haga won the first race a comfortable eleven seconds ahead of Biaggi, with Troy third.
The second race was faster and once Troy Bayliss (Ducati) and Haga had pulled away from the rest of the field, it became a battle for third. Bayliss took the chequered flag, just over a second ahead of Haga, with Biaggi a distant third. Fourth was series Toseland (Honda), just ahead of Troy.
Troy - Race 1: 3rd, Race 2: 5th
I knew that the Yamaha and I would be quite a good package round here and the first race proved it. Unfortunately Nori and Bayliss pulled away at the start and the rest of us had to play catch-up. But when Bayliss started slowing, the rest of us were able to get back into contention. I caught Max (Biaggi) and then spent most of the race trying to get past him. But every time I tried to make a move going into the turns, he would block me. Then, when he exited the turn, his bike would pull away from mine quite easily and I would then have to try and catch him on the brakes at the next corner. It was a bit frustrating, but his bike was definitely faster then mine and, although I tried every thing I knew, I just couldn't pass him. In race two, my bike just felt a bit tired, but because the race was quite a bit faster, it made a bigger difference to what I could do. It was frustrating because I felt that I should have had another podium for sure, but I guess that's racing.
See ya, Troy
