Victory for Zarco in Red Bull Rookies Cup Brno

20 agosto 2007

Johann Zarco came, saw and conquered the 13 laps of the Brno racing circuit to win the sixth race of the 2007 Red Bull Rookies Cup on Saturday by a clear seven seconds.

And for his efforts, the 16-year old French rider not only celebrated his first top podium spot, he also took control of the lead in the season's standings. Zarco is now a clear leader with 109 points with just one race to go in the season's seven race series and he took his victory in style before a huge crowd of MotoGP enthusiasts already at the venue for Sunday's Grand Prix.

Zarco has already been three times in second place and had one third place this season so he was ripe for the victory and not surprisingly he reveled in the moment. He crossed the line with a clenched fist victory salute, enjoyed his victory lap and climbed the top of the podium with a broad grin.
Young Italian Lorenzo Savadori, who was just two points ahead of Zarco failed finish. He had already expressed a little concern after free practice about finding the ideal line on the 5403 m-long Autodrom Brno circuit.

Before the race, Zarco had expressed a slight disappointment at starting second on the gird alongside American Cameron Beaubier. But the winner of the last race at Germany's Sachsenring came unstuck in the early laps and ended in the gravel, leaving the circuit firmly in Zarco's control.

Matthew Hoyle of Britain rode a fine race for second place in Brno and Frenchman Cyril Carrillo was third.

Having started in Jerez, Spain in March, the series winds up in Valencia at the close of the MotoGP season on November 3, 2007. It will conclude an exciting chapter in the lives of these ambitious young riders, who certainly represent a cross section of talent for future professional road racing. All riders in the Red Bull Rookies Cup series are onboard specially developed, identical KTM R-C125 machines, maintained by KTM apprentice mechanics making this an all-round program for the promotion of tomorrow's talent.
