World Supersport, Brno: Kawasaki stars return to do battle once more

17 luglio 2007

The ninth of 13 World Supersport Championship rounds take place at Brno this weekend and the 5.394 km circuit will witness 2002 World Champion Fabien Foret once more taking the fight to long time championship leader Kenan Sofuoglu.

With five rounds still to be scored, Foret is determined to reduce the 61 point lead enjoyed by Sofuoglu, and thus put himself into a position to make a final push to pressurise his rival in the last couple of rounds.
Fabien has already proved the abilities of his new ZX-6R machine, first when he took the win at Phillip Island, and followed up this ultimate success with two further podiums to date, at Assen and Monza.

Pere Riba (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) will be taking his proven world class Supersport credentials to Brno with the intention of scoring his first 2007 podium, after a coming close to  a top three finish on more than one occasion. The Spanish rider is currently 14th overall in the championship chase, with a season best of fifth in Qatar.

Both Foret and Riba have performed recent tests at Brno, as part of the championship’s tyre development programme, and each will use the lessons learned then to help speed the process of finding an optimum Brno set-up on their new-for-2007 ZX-6R machines.

A further test at Vallelunga has ensured that the break in the run of races since the last competitive outing at Misano has been used fruitfully.

Fabien Foret: “I am looking forward to the race at Brno although we had some issues with missing the line and running wide when we last tested there. We will find something to pull everything together for this track so that we can go as fast as we know we can in qualifying and the race. We learned a lot in the test and we will start practice with good information.”

Pere Riba: “We did a test at Brno which went OK, but we still have some things to sort out with the chassis settings. We will see how it will work out on race weekend and how much the changes we have made to the bike during the Vallelunga test will help us.”
