Philippaerts and Barragan well in the MX1 championship points in Sweden

02 luglio 2007

KTM Red Bull MX1 factory riders David Philippaerts and Jonathan Barragan failed to make the podium at the Grand Prix of Sweden but both turned in good enough overall performances for more valuable championship points.

Philippaerts of Italy was sixth and third in the two heats to be just short of the podium in fourth position at the end of the day at Uddevalle.

"I had quite a bad start in the first heat and the group in front of me got away. It was a bit better in the second heat but I took the first corner too wide and was overtaken. I had the front runners in my sights but De Dyker was just too far up front," Philippaerts reflected after the race. "My goal for the rest of the season is just to get as many championship points as I can and finish with the highest possible score."

Sunday was also an unlucky day for Jonathan Barragan. Even though he had no problems with the shoulder injuries that have been giving him trouble, he did come unstuck in both heats. "I am very disappointed," he said. "I didn't have any problems with my shoulder and I had a good speed but I crashed in both heats today. It's very difficult to overtake on this track." Barragan finished overall seventh.

The two KTM Red Bull factory riders are sitting at third and fourth respectively on the standings, although New Zealander Joshua Coppins has a runaway lead at this stage of the season.
