Mixed fortunes for Bernd Hiemer in opening Supermoto GP
![]() Hiemer, a rider who is never satisfied with anything short of success ended the day in overall seventh place. The German admitted after the conclusion of the day’s two races that he had got caught up in congestion at the start of the first race and during the intensive jockeying for positions in the scrum, the exhaust on his machine was damaged by the foot peg on the bike of another rider. “This was bad luck for me and after that I couldn’t push as hard as I would have liked,” Hiemer admitted on Sunday evening. The day’s second race was somewhat more satisfying and he crossed the line in fourth place. “Again I did not get a very good start,” the German rider said. “I was about sixth or seventh going into the first corner and then I managed to improve up to fifth.” Hiemer’s efforts to catch and stick with the front runners for the rest of the race unfortunately went unrewarded. He finished seventh in the overall classification, good enough for 25 world championship points for the weekend. Reflecting on his overall performance in Italy, Hiemer said he had not been as solid on the offroad sections as he would have liked; an area that he intended to concentrate on in training between now and the next event in Bulgaria on May 20.
